I think the base could be heavier. I bought it for two rather big Birman cats who tend to sometimes "throw" themselves at objects. That being said, we did find a brilliant location for it jammed under a window-sill. So it won't be going anywhere now.

I had no problems with my small dog when using this Electric Nail File to file her claws.
